GL.iNet MeshNode Master Thread

I just got news of this product in development. Any specs made available? Will this be able to use a wired backhaul with a future Flint 4?

Hi

Regarding the Flint 4, we do not have many detailed specifications to share at the moment. Some available information can be found here:

As for the Mesh question, yes, there are currently plans to support wired backhaul.

At last the whole home GLinet mesh system!

That is very important information, and I'm glad you confirmed it.

Can we clarify the definition of a mesh? Is the MeshNode effectively an access point? My hope is that the MeshNode with the wired backhaul will support the maximum possible bandwidth provided by the antennas and chipset. Sort of like how people buy a Ubiquiti router and then place access points around their home with a wired backhaul. Typically, when I think of a mesh, I'm thinking that effectively half the bandwidth is lost because of the wireless backhaul. If GL.iNet gets the basic details right, I suspect the MeshNode will be a massive hit in a typical American home. I could imagine a Flint 4, but also a Brume 3, with multiple MeshNodes around the house to ensure good to excellent WiFi coverage.

Is multi psk also a thing on those?

I can see that this can open a oppertunity to add support for this aswell maybe introduce when vlan management gets added at a later time.

it was told to me before it is not planned a long time ago.

Ubiquitti seem to also have this type of feature.

GL.iNet doesn't have to match Ubiquiti to be successful, but it wouldn't hurt to try. The problem is that GL.iNet is too focused on these all-in-one routers. I was a fan of these until I realized that having a dedicated router with access points around the house makes the most sense. I wish GL.iNet would take the Brume series as seriously as it takes the Flint series. I have bought the Brume 3, and it's great! What would be even more awesome is if GL.iNet releases a Brume 4 with the Flint 4's specs.

Yes, Access Point.

Wow! Not sure which segment GL.iNet is targeting, but I'm hoping a minimum of 2x2: 2.4ghz and 5ghz. Crossing my fingers there will be 6ghz and STR MLO.

With Power Over Ethernet?

That's a great idea!

And the killer feature would be a Powerline Hybrid Mesh System (Network Passes Through Home’s electcric circuit and through Walls and Floors)

Does it work well?

Powerline would be nice, there are not so much of powerline adapters which 1) can run OpenWrt and still have enough flash basically render them EOL, 2) with powerline drivers for OpenWrt.

Also for this type device I don't care of OpenWrt only that I know it is secure, so vendor sdk is still okay, compared with other brands I never got a firmware update.

for my garden house it would be perfect, hopefully they can make it small so it can leave a power socket on a dual power socket.

I was referring to ones that are built-into the mesh nodes themselves and not third-party ones. I have a Deco set that runs a hybrid system with both WiFi and Powerline backhaul between nodes and it works amazingly well.
