If i connect the development board to the computer through the usb port it didnt show nothing on the computer management, neither it make the typical sound when you insert usb device...

Install this driver
At least Windows will pop up a message.
So if cable is good, maybe the module is bad.
This might not be a great news but I can see a sticker on your module which is common to RM520NGLAP variants which only works on certain laptops. You need RM520NGLAA ( Quectel RM520NGLAA-M20-SGASA
) or even EU will do. You got scammed unfortunately...
However, if you can confirm that it is indeed an -AA
variant and not AP
(since I tried zooming and still can't read the variant name) then try these commands once you had a connection from your laptop to the module:
AT+QCFG="data_interface",0,0
to set the AT port to use USB rather than PCIE (since development board is using USB as an interface
AT+QCFG="pcie/mode",0
default mode for using USB interface
AT+QCFG="usbnet",0
to set the module to RMNET USB protocol. You can also use ECM (1
) but I don't know if the development board supports it. It will get detected as an Android Tethering if ECM was used.
RM520NGL-AP which is wrong and you shouldn't buy:
Correct module to buy RM520NGL-AA
Unfortunately I have the AP variant, but I didn't know there were 2 variants before I bought glinet board.... glinet should specify this on his website so that no one else will be affected. The good thing is that I can return the wrong module and buy the right one as I am still in the return period. thanks.

What you mean about EU will do? there was another EU variant? Which one?
RM520NGL-AA is a Global variant while RM520NEU-AA is European. Theres some Carrier Aggregation (CA) combinations that are different from each other so check if whats better in your country (if US, then GL is better I think). As long as its not an AP variant then youre good. However, feed back from GL inet would be better to confirm if theres a known problem with their board and EU variant just to be safe.
Also I think that we cannot really blame GL inet on this one but I agree that it would be helpful if theyll specify the module variant so that the users will get reminded to check if they buy from 3rd party suppliers.
RM520N-EU:
Thank you
I have suggested changes to them
ok thanks, i am from Spain so EU should be better? anyway i can find easily RM520NGL-AA variant but the other one RM520NEU-AA it seems to be hard to find, i will try anyway but in case i didnt find it i will go for the global one RM520NGL-AA... i dont know what will be better on EU one...
What bands do you usually use? I think it wouldn't be a problem even if you'll use GL unless you really need some niche CA combinations that GL doesn't support. Overall, GL is more common and pretty much usable anywhere.
What bands do you usually use? : 5G and 4G
unless you really need some niche CA: CA you mean EU correct?
I will go for RM520NGL-AA if it is pretty much usable anywhere and more compatible
Thanks so much!
5G is the 'technology'. @misuzu is asking what actual bands.
CA stands for carrier aggregation. That is when your modem combines multiple bands to increase speed.
ohh sorry ok, what can i do to find the band? i can see it on my android phone for example?
Yes. There are a lot of applications that can do this but I personally use NetMonster. However, phones usually use different modems on their SoCs so supported bands and CA will differ from RM520 95% of the time so you cannot really use it as an apples to apples comparison. However, it can still help you especially for cases like band locking (or even cell locking).
You can use EARFCN calculator to then know what band it is: ARFCN Calculator - Cellular Coverage and Tower Map or change your settings:
hamburger icon -> settings -> monitoring -> change band in cell location option from band name to band number
Also the signal readings were both pretty bad. You may need an external antenna or a good place for you development board where reception is good.
This will work with GL variant, however, signal reception should still be improved.
many thanks! i will go for RM520NGL-AA and I will get back with results
it works perfect with the RM520NGL-AA , thanks all for your help
