GL-M2 DEV Board with Fibocom L850-GL or Sierra Airprime em9191

Hello all,

I have just bought the GL-M2 5G Dev Board with the intention to use the FLINT Router (running firmware 4.6.8) via mobile data as internet source as backup.
I have not been successful in doing so.

I have 2 laptops with 4G Modems and took them out. I don't have a 5G modem atm.

Situation:

  • using the M2 modem Fibocom L850-GL - the admin page says: Incompatible Modem
with the SIM inside it is stuck to Connecting.....bla bla. If I use the Automatic config, it tries to connect but eventually fails. Tried most of the manual configurations (QMI etc with various APNs , no success). However if I try the commands to get IMEI etc, they seem to work. I can also see in the dropdown some APNs that are relevant to the operator sim.
  • using the M2 modem Sierra airprime em9191 - it doesn;t even detect a thing. Under cellular it sais that no modem device is found.

Can anyone give me a hand with this? I've spent some hours trying to figure it out myself but clearly I have failed.
Thank you in advance

Anything in the system log?

I've attached the .tar file(export log function)
logread.tar (148.5 KB)

maybe there's something there that can help? lines of interest seem to start at

If you plug the M2 into your laptop does both modems show up correctly?

they work just fine directly via M2, as I plugged them out from the laptops themselves.

they appear in the device manager also, while having them through the M2 board.
I mean I have to install the drivers of course, but they do pop-up as new detected devices

4IceG's luci-app-modemband supports the fibocom:

Hey Hecatae,

thank you very much for the article.
I have managed to install the app and packages on the Flint router openwrt.

However it seems that I still cannot find the modem which is plugged into the Dev board and via USB cable to the router.

I have inserted a sim as well.

In the GL Inet gui, I still see Incompatible modem error in orange. However if i try Manual AT commands, I can get the IMEI, Signal strength etc from the SIM using the port /dev/tty/ACM0 and ACM2; sending commands to /dev/tty/ACM1 don't return anything.

Following the above provided article installations, I can now see under LUCI web portal the page:

under the modem tab.

But again I see no modem listed.
Then if I go to Configuration tab, to be honest I don;t know which to select:

which one should it be? I tried with all, also with Modems but nothing seems to change... as I said the M2 modem is in the dev board, which is plugged via usb cable to the router

Maybe I am missing something? the drivers didn't install, or are not present? How could I check that, if this would be the problem?

many thanks again for taking the time on checking on my issues...the support said just buy an accepted modem...but that's why I bought the dev board for, to use some M2 modem that I have, then found it it was a list of "accepted" modems...

P.S. I have selected from the Tempates tab the following and saved, which I believe is the correct one

this is what I get when I plug the other modem: Sierra Wireless EM7455 (i put the wrong model in the title)

these are the logs when trying again manual configuration...in the GL INET gui:
