Is there already an option that I haven't seen, or is it a planned feature in an upcoming firmware release, to set the toggle button to enable/disable tailscale?

So far not yet.
A good suggestions, I think guys shall consider it later.

@adeller I haven't used Tailscale personally but considering you are able to add basically any events into that switch button - I'm sure it's possible. You could try. I've added Shadowsocks switch and V2rayA switch to that button as well.
Shadowsocks? It is plain OpenWRT or GL one? If GL one, can you please tell how did you done it?
@jjj In GL one you have an option to open plain luci interface and install anything you want. Just open 192.168.8.1/cgi-bin/luci/
