Hello everyone.
I just bought a GL-MT300N-V2 (Mango) and managed to install Tailscale on it. I was wondering if it was possible to stream games at 1080p 30fps with this router, from my gaming PC, connected with Tailscale.
I tried it with my phone and I had extremely high latency (3000ms+) and an unstable and unplayable stream, and I was wondering if there was something I can do or am I just limited to the Mango's hardware.
It's hard to meet your needs:
Mango's WireGuard speed (up to 45 Mbps) is ideally fast enough to support 1080p 30fps (about 15-20 Mbps without encryption). But Tailscale uses WireGuard, and the router's CPU (MT7628NN) has trouble handling the encryption overhead. This results in high latency and reduced bandwidth. The actual bandwidth used is far less than 45Mbps.
You can try to connect MT300N directly via an Ethernet cable to test the actual network speed.
MT7628NN is an entry-level chip . If you want to run 1080p 30fps stably, it is recommended to switch to a router with a stronger CPU.
Hello, thank you for your quick response
Do you think that the Opal (GL-SFT1200) will be able to stream games with better performance? Will this gain be worth it?
Thank you
Hi, my plan was to connect the GL.iNet to the home router with Ethernet. The bandwidth is around ~80mbps, which should be enough for game streaming, while the connection from the GL.iNet to the streaming client should be wireless.
Thanks and sorry for not being clear.
My computer is already running Tailscale, I use a the GL.iNet to bridge devices that canβt run it.
I ended up investing in a GL.iNet Beryl AX, thanks everyone for your support
