GL-MT300N-V2 (Mango) Wi-Fi cannot enable Wi-Fi device

I’ve had a GL-MT300N-V2 (Mango) for a couple of years, but it seems the wireless chip might have an issue.

In the log I see;

All three lights are showing as white.

Any suggestions if this is a hardware fault or what I can do to check, please?

The log you posted is system log.

Did you change any wifi settings so that radio cannot be configured? Just do a firmware reset and check again.

You can also send log of kernel?

dmesg

If radio is defective, it will show some message or does not have anything about radio.

However, it may have previously been working by luck only. What option might have been set so that the radio cannot be configured?

I just compare the log with mine.

But in your config you don’t have channel configured. As long as I know, channel is a must.

How do I do that? There isn’t a radio to associate it with as the device is not active.

I have reset the router, upgraded the firmware and I get the same view as above (Device is not Active).

I can connect to the router wirelessly with a laptop, which is extremely strange. My other devices cannot.

Some more tests, I am seeing this error, so tested directly

Pretty convinced this is a bug due to the use of OpenWrt v19.07 by OEM. Loaded V22.03 and it is fine.

The default firmware should work fine. Otherwise a lot of users will screem.

Can I ask if it works after you reset and just do initialization without install luci etc? Luci will change some configurations. Also I saw that you changed to country to GB but this model actually use the region option.

By V22.03 you installed a full open source version with open source wifi driver.

It might work, but it doesn’t mean there aren’t errors.

It works without Luci, in that in basic configuration I can connect to the AP, but I can’t configure it correctly as I need to set up a VLAN and that requires Luci as well as some other configuration changes.

I’m simply clicking on the ‘Advanced’ mode, then ‘Wireless’ so I am not doing anything you do not supply out of the box.

I was just trying different things.

I still think my first post, and the system log error is the issue.

I checked mine, firmware 3.215.

In luci it shows “Device is not active”, which I think it is normal. The wifi still works OK.

This is because MT300N-V2 Mango uses MTK private wifi driver and Luci is not compatible.

In your another device you’d better check what firmware you installed. Maybe you uses firmware downloaded from OpenWrt directly and Luci is just fine with with wifi.
