GL-MT300N-V2 VPN client connection speed

I intend to use the MT300N mango as a client to my Open VPN server running on a Synology NAS at home so that I can access geo-restricted subscription TV when I'm travelling abroad. I'm currently in France; I have the mango behind an Orange LiveBox router connected from the WAN socket on the mango into a free LAN socket on the orange.

The mango client connects to the Synology straight away, but devices connecting to the mango via WiFi can only get around 8 Mbps up or down, which is marginal for streaming TV, especially sport.

I have connected an android phone directly to the orange router and it gets around 500 Mbps down with no VPN and around 80 Mbps through the Synology VPN server using its own VPN client.

I feel I should be able to get in the ballpark of the 80 Mbps download speed the phone gets without the mango with a PC or TV streamer through the mango. Am I right? How can I go about troubleshooting this?

The truth is: You bought a mango, you got a mango.
Max OpenVPN speed is 11 Mbps. So 8 Mbps is almost the most you can get.

Switching to WireGuard will help, so you will get at least 40 Mbps

Well that's pretty clear then. I originally sent with OpenVPN because the Synology doesn't have a Wireguard server without a lot of messing with other packages that probably won't run in my ancient hardware. However i do have a Raspberry Pi I can use, so that's my next try. Thanks.
