Seems the file size is the same….

mt6000-4.8.4-269-0106-1767630356.bin | 60,7 MB (63.703.029 bytes) | January 6th |

mt6000-4.8.4-269-0112-1768148949.bin | 60,7 MB (63.703.029 bytes) | January 12th |

So not really a snapshot? Unless no changes ofc

I was thinking the same, it doesn't look like a true snapshot with last changes from November 2025

Another thing I want to know why is the snapshot still on OpenWrt 21.02 how come it isn’t on 24?

Would be nice with an actual snapshot, yup

Hi

Regarding the update of the release notes, we have notified the R&D team to have a check.

The snapshot version for the MT6000 is built based on the closed-source MTK SDK, so its OpenWRT version remains at 21.02.

If you wish to use OpenWRT 24, please download it from the OpenWRT 24 tab which have not snapshot version.

Looks like the snapshot has none of the features form the v4.8.99 beta :frowning:

Are there plans for GL‑iNet to support/implement mt76 development or to push MediaTek for an updated MTK SDK that works with kernel 6.x?

All current MTK SDK releases — 7.4.0.0, 7.6.0.0, and 7.7.0.0 — are locked to kernel 5.4, which limits devices to an OpenWrt 21.02 base. Since there’s no MTK SDK for kernel 6.x, vendors can’t bring the proprietary Wi‑Fi/NAT stack forward to OpenWrt 23/24.

Support from GL‑iNet or pressure on MediaTek would help move the platform to modern OpenWrt versions without losing performance.

Can you update OpenWRT without losing the interface that comes with Admin Panel?

If you mean updating to vanilla openwrt no, you going to loose GL.Inet UI

We have updated the Release notes for the Snapshot version.

Release notes for MT6000 Snapshot: GL.iNet download center

v4.8.99 is a specialized testing version for DPI (Deep Packet Inspection); please note that DPI features will not currently appear in the standard Snapshot versions.

If you are looking to use a newer version of OpenWRT, you may want to consider the OpenWRT 24 version mentioned previously, which also includes the GL.iNet Admin Panel.

Thank you worked like a charm.

any idea when DPI will be rolled out?

The DPI feature is currently scheduled for official release in version 4.9 or 4.10, but no specific release date is available at this time.

I've been testing the snapshot version for a few days and I can say that it's very stable. I'll post some speed tests on the wifi side, DHCP connection plus IPv6 active.

v4.8.4 30.01.2026

I second this, I’ve exclusively been running snapshots because they’ve proven to be more stable and faster than the stable or betas. The latest snapshot from the 30th has been the best so far, especially after they implemented the new 4.9 dns.

Thank you all for sharing your experiences with the snapshot version.
It's good to hear it's performing stably in your setup.

I’ve got a (dumb) question.

The Snapshots are still based on 21.02; how do they compare to Openwrt 24 (using 24.10.4)?

Aside from the older factory wifi drivers, are other components more up to date than open24 or are they older like the base 21.02?

You’re welcome! Just a heads up in case you’re not aware, the snapshots for the flint 2 are missing from the download section as of today.

Today’s snapshot build failed, and yesterday’s build has already been withdrawn, which is why you can’t see any snapshots firmware available right now.

A new build should be automatically generated and uploaded again tonight at 20:00 (UTC+8).
