I am currently using a GL-MT6000 router and I'm experiencing an issue with a newly purchased USB modem.
Here are my router's details:
Model: GL-MT6000
Firmware Version: 4.8.3
Firmware Type: release
Update time: 2025-10-16 04:13:21 (UTC+00:00)
I recently bought a SIMPoYo uFi Plug & Play 4G USB Dongle with Hotspot, running the following versions:
WebUI Version: SIMPoYo.W06
Software Version: SIMPoYo.B06
Hardware Version: SIMPoYo.D01
The issue is that the SIMPoYo dongle is not being recognized by the GL-MT6000 at all when plugged into the USB port. Could you please advise on how to resolve this or if there are any specific settings/drivers I need to configure?
Troubleshooting steps I have already taken (to rule out hardware/software faults):
Tested Dongle on PC: Works perfectly.
Tested Dongle on another GL.iNet Router: Plugged it into my Mango (GL-MT300N-V2) and it was recognized immediately, and USB Tethering works fine.
Tested MT6000 USB Port: Plugged a standard SanDisk USB 3.0 flash drive into the Flint 2. It was instantly detected in dmesg (new SuperSpeed Gen 1x2 USB device) and mounted correctly. The router's USB port is physically fine.
Verified Installed Packages: Checked via SSH (opkg list-installed | grep usb). All necessary packages are present (usb-modeswitch, kmod-usb-net-rndis, cdc-ether, cdc-ncm, qmi-wwan, etc.).
Attempted USB 2.0 Downgrade: Used a USB 2.0 extension cable to force the 2.0 protocol. Didn't work.
UI Settings & Cold Boot: Toggled the "USB 3.0 Interference" setting in the WebUI to force USB 2.0 mode. I also tried performing a cold boot (powering on the router with the dongle already inserted). Neither triggered a detection.
Tested with a Smartphone: I tried using my smartphone for USB tethering. Just like the SIMPoYo dongle, the phone is not detected at all by the Flint 2. However, the exact same phone tethers immediately when plugged into the Mango.
Power Supply Check: To rule out any under-voltage issues, I am using the original OEM power supply that came with the Flint 2, which provides plenty of power (12.0V, 4.0A, 48W).
@joker85 Can you unplug and replug in the simpoyo uFi, then export the router log and send to us to check? The router log can be export from the admin panel ->SYSTEM->Log page.
I noticed that the full log bundle contains quite a bit of sensitive and private data (like MAC addresses and public IPs, VPN keys). To protect my privacy, could you specify exactly which log files or specific lines you need to investigate the USB tethering issue? I'll be happy to extract and provide those specific parts.
You can send the log via private message or send to support@gl-inet.com.
I'd like to check whether the USB modem has been detected properly. Additionally, please log into ssh terminal, run the following commands and share the command response with us:
ls /dev/
cat /sys/kernel/debug/usb/devices
