I've had a GL-MT6000 for about three months now. Mostly quite satisfied.
Early this week, my router stopped getting an IP address from my modem (Arris S33) (connected via ethernet) and so I can't access the internet via wifi. I can't get my router to get an IP address. See image
Okay, so you might think this is a problem with my modem (Arris S33) . It connects to my laptop just fine and gets an IP address instantly. Everything I can think of says that my modem is working properly.
These are the things I've tried to do (not necessarily in this order):
Reboot
Switch to Ethernet 2
Clone MAC address from my laptop
Change ethernet cables
Reset firmware
BUY A NEW GL-MT6000!
I've seen some posts that suggest that perhaps the ethernet hardware has failed. I ssh'd into the router to see what is going on. But, it didn't help
swconfig dev switch0 show
Failed to connect to the switch. Use the "list" command to see which switches are available.
I'm running firmware 4.5.8 on my router. It seems to be the latest stable firmware available for my router.
Please advise. I'm stuck and my family will murder me if we don't get our internet back!
I just emailed you an updated log file. I reset to factory conditions (by holding in the reset button) and started over. Still getting the same response.
I'm sorry.
We didn't get any useful information from the log
Based on your current troubleshooting, this appears to be a hardware failure
Can you contact our technical support team for a replacement?
I'm sorry for the trouble
Actually, i was able to get it working late this afternoon. I cant say exactly what was different, but it is working now. Sorry i didnt inform you earlier.
I did not make any changes to the software. Embarrassingly, it was resolved by very carefully considering the order in which to turn things on and connect. First the modem, then the router, wait a couple of minutes and then connect them. It shouldn’t be that way, but that’s what worked.
