GL-MV1000 temperature issue?

Hi Folks,

On the page GL-MV1000 / Brume - GL.iNet we can see router specification details including temperature:

Working Temperature 0~40°C (32~104°F)

I am struggling to reduce temperature on mine…

It is still not so hot outside now, but with lm-sensors I am able to retrieve the temperature of my GL-MV1000

root@GL-MV1000:~# sensors
socinternalregsd0000000mdio32004switch01mdio13-mdio-d
Adapter: MDIO adapter
temp1: +59.0°C (crit = +100.0°C)

socinternalregsd0000000mdio32004switch01mdio11-mdio-b
Adapter: MDIO adapter
temp1: +59.0°C (crit = +100.0°C)

socinternalregsd0000000mdio32004switch01mdio12-mdio-c
Adapter: MDIO adapter
temp1: +59.0°C (crit = +100.0°C)

By the way I have 2 of them and both are in the range 54-60°C

Is this ok ?

If I put a fan near the router, temperature goes down of course.

The Working Temperature 0~40°C mean the envirement temperature.

In Terminal or by ssh, you should get the cpu temperature by type p.e.:
sensors or lm-sensors. Thats are depend on device and OS configuration.

60°C are a good value for CPU temperature.
Critical temperatures are p.e 100°C or 105°C, depend on CPU model.

Everything looks good for me.

Hello Henry,

I posted above data from sensors (lm sensors)

root@GL-MV1000:~# sensors
socinternalregsd0000000mdio32004switch01mdio13-mdio-d
Adapter: MDIO adapter
temp1: +59.0°C (crit = +100.0°C)

socinternalregsd0000000mdio32004switch01mdio11-mdio-b
Adapter: MDIO adapter
temp1: +59.0°C (crit = +100.0°C)

socinternalregsd0000000mdio32004switch01mdio12-mdio-c
Adapter: MDIO adapter
temp1: +59.0°C (crit = +100.0°C)

Can you share your gl.inet temperature ?

Dont have gl router for checking temperature on this time around me.

I can tell you from two equal PCs:

  • PC are playing a video: CPU 52°C, (crit. 105°C, thats mean, CPU will stepp down a little bit the speed, by 105°C for preventing demages)
  • One other PC, which change the resolution from a Video on this time, are allway around 103°C (crit. 105°C, thats looks for me, this CPU are already stepp down a little bit for preventing from temperatures higher than 105°C)

I even doubt that if the temperature sensor is accurate.

During working MV1000 is much hoter and it should be fine.

If you like to save energy=reducing temperature, you can:

  • reduce the power of WiFi, p.e. from 100mW to 10mW (you dect phone have p.e even 10mW…)
  • disable no need services, a thats save only a little bit

True, but mv1000 does not have wifi  and my LA is already ~ 0.08

I dont know what LA ~ 0.08 mean.

True maybe not accurate, but at least information is representative.

Since I use both 2x routers together only at home, I put them in small 20x20x20 metal ikea box, temperature went down and not increasing more than 44C.

I have also installed a fan in it in case of with xiaomi termometer

The crit temperature of you cpu ist +100.0°C. You told by self. Dont need a fan which take additional power and create noise.

Do you have realy a room temperature higher than 40°C in a Ikea articles selling country ?

I recall loading some temp monitor software and also found it sitting at 44-45. only thing that comes to mind would be dropping down core numbers to achieve that but I yet to confirm it.

The temperature can be reduced marginal, by diable not used services.

  • p.e. disable one of the both offered vpn services
  • disable ssh, if not used
  • and so on
