I'm confused, I'd have expected this to be in the announcements forum, not just hidden on the blog.
You state end of life and then announce firmware support until October 2025, will the sf1200 be getting v4 firmware or will it be left on the vulnerable and insecure v3.216 that's seen no updates?
Interesting. First off, I see that both the GL iNet store and the Amazon USA store are still selling these routers without letting people know that they are EOL. Second, instead of giving the normal 2 years of support from the date the EOL noticed was posted, which was May 14, 2024, GL iNet is only giving until October 2025, so less then a year and a half of support from the date the EOL notice was posted, and not the normal 2 years.
Lastly, as there is no generic OpenWrt port for these routers, and it looks like there never will be, this will result in whole bunch of e-waste after support ends. At least those of us who own AR750 and AR750s have an option to use generic OpenWrt once our firmware support ends this year, to keep our routers updated and secure. This is why I never recommend anyone buy a GL iNet router that does not have generic OpenWrt firmware support.
Thank you for your suggestion, we will add a forum announcement.
The SF1200 has been removed from the official store, so you're probably looking at a different vendor.
You're right, we should have determined the support period based on when the announcement was made, not when production stopped.
We'll correct that later.
Amazon or GL.iNet are clearly not selling this router!!
As you can see on the details "Amazon warehouse" it's just a 3rd party seller who chose that name to misguide uninformed costumes
