GL-SFT1200 Opal - Google devices run slow/buffer

Hi,

I’m experiencing a strange issue with a new GL-SFT1200 Opal that I purchased from Amazon.
We use the GL-SFT1200 in our office, which we’ve recently relocated to. The WiFi in the building is a shared WiFi for all tenants, so we are using the GL-SFT1200 to create our own secure WiFi/Network as a repeater.

We’ve got everything set up, and people’s laptops in the office do not have any issues and can connect to the internet. The issue we have is that we have a Google Home and a Google Mini, which can connect to our WiFi/Network, we can see them on the Google Home app and ask them questions. The issue we have is when we ask them to play music or stream music. Both of them buffer the audio and also become slow to commands or trying to turn them down with touching them. We’ve brought in an Amazon Alexa device, and that has no issues at all (It’s currently streaming a radio station as I type this with no issues).

Has anyone come across this issue, or have any idea what could be causing this?

I’ve also tried creating a hotspot from my mobile phone and had the router connect to it, but the Google devices still had the same issue.

Hi

If you connect Google Home and Google Mini directly to your phone's hotspot, will the same issue happen?

It seems to be a quirk of Google IoT devices.

No, the issue doesn’t happen. They stream perfectly when connecting to my hotspot, but they only have an issue when connecting to the SFT1200 for some reason.

Could you provide us with the following details?

  1. Does this issue occur consistently or only occasionally?
  2. Have you checked the Wi-Fi coverage status at location of Google Home/Mini? Does moving it closer to the SFT1200 improve the situation?
  3. When the issue occurs, have you checked the network's available bandwidth (since it appears everyone in the office is connected to the SFT1200)?
  4. Does the issue persist when no one else is using the network in the office?
  5. Is the SFT1200 using features like VPN or AdGuard Home? Please try disabling them to see if that helps.
  6. What is the current firmware version of the SFT1200? If it's not the latest, please try updating to the latest stable version. Firmware can be downloaded here and installed following this guide.
