GL-SFT1200 won't re-connect to a hidden SSID

I have a network with two GL-SFT1200 routers. The first router is connected via the WAN Ethernet port and the second router is connected via WiFi from the first router. Everything works great with the SSID broadcast turned on, but when I try to hide the SSID on the first router, the 2nd router can no longer connect to the first router

Maybe the SSID of the first router is hidden and the second one doesn't find it anymore because it's hidden?

On my other network devices, I can connect once to my router and it will save the router connection info so that after I hide the SSID it will still be able to connect (even after the SSID broadcast is turned off). This is done so that once you connect all your devices to the router, you can then turn off the SSID broadcast so others can't see your router. When I connect one GL-SFT1200 to another, this doesn't work after I turn off the SSID broadcast

When you hide the SSID does the MAC address change?

no, the mac address never changes

If you are "Turning off the SSID broadcast" that would disable the WiFi on the device. There is a section on the WiFi page that says "SSID visibility" that's the setting that needs to be changed.
