I am using this device in my food truck configured with the primary WAN using my homes Wifi then Starlink and finally ATT 5G as a last resort. I’m not getting good Wifi WAN signals with the Router inside the food truck and the doors closed and I’m also not getting a good 5g signal. I’ve seen some external antennas but they are real proud of them. I found this 4x4 LTE and 2x2 Wifi for just over a hundred bucks…. has anyone tried it? I did note that the Antenna’s stated frequency ranges are 617 - 960 / 1710 - 2690 / 2900 - 4200 MHz.
However, it seems to be missing support for certain frequency bands like n79 (4400–5000 MHz). That said, if those bands are not used—or are rarely used—in your area, it shouldn’t be an issue.
The GL-X3000 does not have built-in antennas, so you don’t need to worry about the impact of replacing them.
Additionally, we’ve recommended some antennas at the bottom of the product page—you may find them helpful:
The GL-X3000 has a built-in 5 GHz Wi-Fi antenna. So if your devices support 5 GHz Wi-Fi, installing an external Wi-Fi antenna outside the vehicle can provide good connectivity both inside and outside the car.
That said, Wi-Fi performance inside the car may not be as strong, since there is only one antenna and it cannot benefit from 2×2 MIMO. However, it is still much better than having no internal antenna at all and relying solely on signals coming in from outside the vehicle.
I have the similar GL-XE3000 Puli (The one with the battery) I got the Wavform Quad Mini and is really good I’m about 1.5 Miles from the cell tower and get good signal.
This raises a concern. If I move the antennas to the exterior of the food truck I will have poor signal for Wifi devices inside the food truck. What are your thoughts?
No, if you get that Waveform kit, you leave the router inside and use the existing Wi-Fi antennas inside too, and those can also be upgraded (we’ve not needed to)
Thanks for all the comments, I ordered the Waveform OmniRoam: 6-in-1 Low-Profile Mobile Antenna (4G/5G & WiFi). I will find out if the new antenna will be powerful enough for the devices inside my food truck.
Yes, but this is largely unavoidable since the Wi-Fi antennas are now outside the vehicle.
Some of our other customers purchase an additional router and connect it to the X3000, using it as an indoor access point.
In this setup, the X3000 benefits from strong cellular connectivity via the external antennas, while both inside and outside the vehicle can still get good Wi-Fi coverage.
AngelaMcMahon likely means that you can place only the cellular antennas outside the vehicle while continuing to use the default Wi-Fi antennas inside.
In this setup, the X3000 can achieve good cellular connectivity via the external antennas, while only the inside of the vehicle will have strong Wi-Fi coverage. The Wi-Fi signal outside the vehicle may be weaker.
