GL-X3000 Prompting to upgrade to a "snapshot" firmware version

Just realized that the firmware version the X3000 prompted me to upgrade to, back on Sept. 23rd, is a “snapshot” version (4.8.2), which ‘may not be stable’, and appears to have actually been pulled from the website: GL.iNet download center | GL-X3000 Spitz AX

  • Why did the device prompt to upgrade to a potentially unstable version?
  • When will the next stable version be released?
  • Will I be able to cleanly/safely upgrade from 4.8.2 to a new stable version (once it’s released) or will I need to first downgrade or factory reset before/after?

Thank you.

Hi

Could you provide a screenshot from Admin Panel - System - Upgrade?

If it matches what I provided (4.0 & 0802release5), then this version is indeed stable.
However, we discovered some defects after release and have since removed it from the download center.

The current snapshot version in the download center is 4.8.3 snapshot, not 4.8.2.
It might be a misunderstanding.

We are actively working on this but currently have no specific timeline to share.

You should be able to upgrade cleanly/safely from 4.8.2 to the next released stable version.
Only attempt to restore factory settings if you encounter any other issues.

However, we discovered some defects after release and have since removed it from the download center. So this version (4.0 & 0802release5) was flagged as “stable” and listed on the “stable” download page (https://dl.gl-inet.com/router/x3000/stable) sometime before Sept. 23rd, and then was pulled sometime afterwards? That would explain why my unit prompted for upgrade even though “Accept Preview Plan” was (and always has been) disabled

  • I’m interested in using the device as a dedicated cellular internet modem; looking to enable “bridge” mode following the instructions in this topic, which only appears to be supported/tested on firmware up to 4.7.4. So how do I proceed in safely downgrading my unit back to 4.7.4? I assume that I should factory reset either before or after the downgrade (or both)?

Thank you.

We believe that simply disabling “Keep Settings” during downgrades is sufficient.
