GL-X3000NR Stuck on initial band

Hello, I bought the new 5G version of the Spitz. I’m liking it so far. However, It seems that on AT&T it doesn’t change bands when there are faster bands available.

Note: This AT&T sim card is LTE Only plan & not 5g capable plan so all these bands listed below are on 4g LTE.

Example: My Netgear M1100 Hotspot (AT&T Branded) would automatically migrate to Band 66 for the fastest speeds and stay there most of the time. The Spitz just stays at the band it originally connects to & has never chosen band 66 at the start or migrated there when it should have.

I did band block on band 2, band 12, band 30, & it did go to band 66. I don’t want to band lock though because cutting out those bands listed would be limiting available frequencies when bandwidth is low.

It seems that the Spitz software is not able to change the bands to higher speed frequency bands (66) when it should be in my area as my previous hotspot did.

I’ve tried T-mobile sim & seems to be doing everything it needs to get me fast 5g speeds.

Here is a screenshot of band 30 AT&T locked onto when connecting Sim. It should be going into band 66 but it stays at band 30.

It appears that Band 66 is even getting a better signal too compared to band 30.

Hi fantastic:

Is the rate of channel 66 higher than channel 30 on the X3000?

From the information you presented, channel 30 and channel 4 are aggregated together.
Theoretically, band(30+4) should be have a higher rate.

Thanks lizh,

Well I did some more digging & according to AT&T Band 30 is the higher frequency. So my old M1 hotspot is putting me in the “Mid band” range & that is what I was expecting from this router. What’s ironic is that I get faster speeds from Band 66 then 30 & hence my confusion thinking 66 was higher.

Band 2 (1900)
Band 4/30 (1700/2300) <— You see what I didn’t realize & I believe 30 must be CA band 4 too.
Band 66 (1700/2100?)

And yes that band 66 gets me the fastest rate speeds for some odd reason.

Still, If the router starts off in band 12 it won’t migrate to band 30 or 66 as an example. Earlier today it did start off in band 30 so that’s promising. The router is set to Auto function so it’s free to select what it deems appropriate. But Is there a way to set a priority on frequency bands?

EDIT: I just seen where you said it looks like 30 & 4 are working together & that appears to be the case but I think 66 combines all of those bands & range from 1700/2300.

Also, the cellular failover waiting minimum is 5 minutes. Can we get 3 minutes on the selection?

Hi fantastic:

If you start with band 12, won’t the X3000 switch to band 30? Will it not switch even if there is no client communication?

According to the basic registration mechanism of the network, the channel with good signal quality and 5G frequency will be preferred.

Thanks lizh,

That was exactly what was happening. It would hook to band 12 & not move anywhere. But I have some good news below.

Maybe I’ve just not had the device long enough to see its behavior. Guess what? I logged into the router today & switched from T-Mobile sim over to AT&T sim. I saw it connected to Band 66 right away. I’ve never seen it happen yet until today. This is great news!

Note: This AT&T sim is only a 4G LTE plan so it will not hook to 5g bands.

Just a side note: My 5g plan T-mobile sim is getting 300-500 MBPS down. That is fantastic! I’m really liking this router. Being able to adjust the fan on/off temp is really awesome!

Watching it further today & saw it hook up to Band 30 & migrate to Band 66 so all seems to be well. I believe the weekend had low bandwidth & caused it not to migrate along with just getting this router.

Also, To be clear. Will Enabling “Checking Preferred Slot Status Scheduled” REMAIN in the failover sim card slot until that time even after failover occurs & the router detects no internet on that sim card?

The purpose of this option is how often the switching is done at intervals when there is no internet on both SIM cards.

  • Preferred SIM card has signal → this option has no meaning
  • Preferred SIM card has no signal, backup SIM card has signal → the device will switch to the backup SIM card soon, this option has no meaning
  • No signal on both preferred and backup SIM → the device will first switch to the backup SIM and then back to the preferred SIM. It then decides how long it will take to switch back to the standby SIM based on the value of this option (unless the signal is restored to the preferred SIM)
Switching the SIM card itself takes time, so this interval cannot be set too short or it will keep switching over and over again.

It is just a timed task.
If you enable it, and the device is using the backup SIM at a set time, the device will cut back to the preferred SIM. Of course, if the preferred SIM card is still out of signal, it will failover to the backup SIM card.
Some backup SIM cards don’t have that much balance, it’s just to prevent using too much traffic from the backup SIM. After all, the device will not failover to the preferred SIM if the backup SIM is always connected.

No signal on both preferred & backup SIM with “Preferred slot status scheduled” enabled → Device will have the above listed behavior without waiting for the scheduled Switching Time or will it wait for the Switching Time?

  1. No signal on both preferred and backup with “Preferred slot status scheduled” enabled → Will not remain until Switching Time & instead Switch back to preferred SIM?

Understood & I agree

It will switch immediately.

It doesn’t remain, it immediately switches back to the preferred SIM card.

Thank you both for clarifying & answering my questions about this router. It really is a great piece of equipment & I want to use it best for my situation.
