GL-X750: sim card not registered after upgrade

I unboxed a GL-X750C8 unit that I had sitting in a box for a while and set it up with a SIM card and it connected to the network on the first try.

Then I upgraded the firmware to the latest available 3.x version (3.217 as found here) and started seeing the message "sim card not registered" when the device tries to connect to the cellular network.

I also tried upgrading to v4 (4.3.19) with the same result.

In the logs I see cat: can't open '/tmp/modem.1-1/signal which seems significant.

Here is the full dump:

Any ideas? I only have today and tomorrow left to set up the device.

  1. Check whether the sim card works properly on the phone
  2. Check whether the router antenna is normal
  3. Check whether the APN of the SIM card is correct and try automatic dialing

@ywp Thanks for the reply!

  1. The card works fine in another LTE router
  2. Antenna looks ok — also the router was not moved after the firmware update, and everything worked before the update, so it's probably not a hardware issue
  3. I did try entering the APN manually, but it didn't help

I also tried flashing back to the original version, but the UI is rejecting the firmware that I'm uploading. Would it be worth trying to flash using SSH?

Which firmware version you used before

I'm not exactly sure how it came out of the box, but I remember it was dated 2020. Possibly it was 3.102.

I don't see it on the downloads page, the earliest is 3.105.

Can I see it remotely?
Technical Support via GoodCloud.tar (192 KB)

I couldn't set you up with remote access this week because I didn't want to disrupt the internet connection in the house, but now that I'm back home I'll find a local SIM card and provide you access.

You can turn on the hotspot with your phone
The X750 will relay the phone's hotspot

Sorry that took a while. I've set up GoodCloud. The document doesn't mention where I send the MAC address and password? The device name is 47013 (this thread ID).
