Gl-x750v2 with USB Wifi AWUS036ACHM

Hello,
I am using a gl-x750v2 Router and want to add the AWUS036ACHM WiFi as a USB device and use it to connect to known wifi available.
How can I do this?

So far I did:

opkg update
	opkg install usbutils
	opkg install kmod-mt7601u

	mkdir /lib/firmware/mediatek
	cd /lib/firmware/mediatek
	wget https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/plain/mediatek/mt7610u.bin

But how can I access this new Wifi Device on either the GL-Webinterface or the luci webinterface?

Thanks for your help

The Alfa AWUS036ACHM has the MediaTek MT7610U chipset:

Check if there is a package with a driver for that model.

I do not work for and I do not have formal association with GL.iNet

As you can read in my code section above, Already downloaded the bin file.
Now how do i continue?
Will it be shown at the webinterface?

Your bin file download looks like for Linux and I think OpenWRT packages are different ipk files for different architectures. Maybe you can try installing using Upload Package via LuCI → System → Software.

If the driver works, then the USB wifi adapter should be detected and show up in the existing GL.iNet UI and LuCI UI.

Before it will be shown anywhere it needs to be loaded.
The steps in your first post looks promising, but as said before, it is not sure the Linux .bin will work on the router, too.

  1. Login via SSH
  2. Type lsmod and look out for the mt7601u module.
  3. Type iw, is the new device listed? (Try plugged in and pluged out, is there a difference?)
    …

And if this fails, there is always dmesg. Sometimes a lot of input. But start the router without the Stick, plug it in and execute dmesg. If anything is missing or the bin can’t be loaded, this should appear at the very bottom of the long list.
Even if it doesn’t look at the first sight, most parts of the log are very good readable/to understand for humans.

The next steps are more GL.iNet specific. I think it will be enough to use LuCI to add the new device to the bridge LAN or something like that.

Thanks sounds like a good plan:
plugged in
here the output of lsmod: GobiNet 380918 0GobiSerial 7130 0act_connmark - Pastebin.com
here the output of iw: root@GL-X750:~# iwUsage: iw [options] commandOptions: --debug - Pastebin.com

unplugged I get the follwoing outputs
here the output of lsmod: pastebin com → rNj9zi8J
here the output of iw: pastebin com → kRnkZh4r

dsmesg plugging in and unplugging gives me this:

[57206.325361] usb 1-1.3: USB disconnect, device number 5
[57647.712673] usb 1-1.3: new high-speed USB device number 6 using ehci-platform

[57682.782681] usb 1-1.3: new high-speed USB device number 7 using ehci-platform

I did try to install the driver using this tutorial from openwrt (github --> morrownr How_to_Install_Firmware_for_Mediatek_based_USB_WiFi_adapters.md, but those guys told me it is no original openwrt, so they cannot help me:

here dmesg: pastebin → vPgkpJHK
and the iw-list output:

Okay, looks good so far. I’ve hat iwconfig in my mind, that’s why I was somewhat confused at the beginning.
Only 54 Mbps? Is is a BG only stick?

Could you give is the output of the command iw dev? (or iwconfig, but I will be too lazy to read it all).

I expect something like:

root@GL-AXT1800:~# iw dev
phy#1
	Interface wlan1
		ifindex 11
		wdev 0x100000002
		addr 00:03:7f:xx:xx:xx
		ssid GL-AXT1800-xxx
		type AP
		channel 6 (2437 MHz), width: 20 MHz, center1: 2437 MHz
		txpower 20.00 dBm

And in the next step we could try to assign it.

The page ‘Network - Interfaces - Tab: Devices’ says for the option ‘Bridge ports’:

Specifies the wired ports to attach to this bridge. In order to attach wireless networks, choose the associated interface as network in the wireless settings.

In ‘Network - Wireless’ with the Button [Edit] at the device, at ‘Interface Configuration’ I can see the Option ‘Network’, with the value ‘LAN’ …

I do tink this is what you are searching, But I don’t have a USB WLAN device with me and checked it on the AXT-1800 (Slate AX) with Firmware 4.0.2 (Kernel 5.4) … So it could be somewhat different at your device.

I have a USB wifi adapter with MediaTek MT7612U chipset (maybe similar to MT7610U) that works on 2 of my GL.iNet routers.

For reference, here is what dmesg (Kernel Log) shows when I plug it in:

Here is what lsusb and lsusb -t shows:

The package is kmod-mt76x2u and the driver name is displayed as bound to the device if it works. The adapter does not show up in the Gl,.iNet UI, so I have to use the LuCI UI for configuration via LuCI → System → Wireless.

Thanks that helped a lot!!!

Here is what LuCI → System → Wireless shows after the MT7612U USB wifi adapter has been configured with radio2 as an access point with SSID MT7612U (Master)

I would want to have it as a “backup” so if there is no LTE, it should connect to a known wifi best would be from a list of known wifis

To configure the USB wifi adapter as a Client (a.k.a. Station), click on the Scan button for radio2 (instead of the Add button) which will then display and let you chose from the list of SSID’s that you can connect to.

You will have to change the connection priorities so that LTE takes priority over wifi.
