GLX3000 Router Placement (Heat vs. Antenna Cable Length)

Hi everyone,

I've installed my GLX3000 router in our camper van and am using an external antenna mounted on the roof. To keep the antenna cables as short as possible, I placed the router directly under the roof, just beneath the antenna.

The roof is insulated with 20 mm Armaflex, but today was a hot day here in Switzerland. The temperature inside the closed van reached:

  • 42 °C directly under the roof (at the router's location)
  • 31 °C in the rear garage area

Despite the high ambient temperature, the router is running smoothly. The CPU temperature is currently 73 °C, with no noticeable performance issues.

Still, I'm wondering whether it might be better to relocate the router to the rear garage, where it's significantly cooler. This would, however, increase the antenna cable length from about 1 m to 4 m.

Would the cooler environment outweigh the potential signal loss due to the longer antenna cables? I'd appreciate any insights or experiences you might have with similar setups.

Best regards from sunny Switzerland,
Matthias

I think the X3000 CPU is still within the acceptable temperature range if it is at 73℃, as X3000 has a built-in fan.
When the CPU temperature exceeds your set temperature, the fan will start to dissipate heat to out of the device.

A 1 m antenna feeder cable is reasonable, but after the cable length exceeds 2 m, the signal may be weakened, whether it is 4G/5G, or WiFi.
You may consider whether the signal strength is satisfied after replacing the 4 m feeder cable based on your use environment, more comfortable temperatures, longer service life of router, it is true for any equipment.
