How to access local devices when no internet is available

On my GL-X3000 Spitz Router , I have the following internet options configured

  • configured a 5G SIM Card (currently expired)
  • configured a WLAN (for use when the camper van is parked at home in the driveway)

My camper also has a local web server / raspberry pi which is connected to the router with RJ-45 ethernet cable.

I have also installed Tailnet to access local devices over the internet.

The setup works perfectly well when the van is parked at home.

My problem occurs when I am on the road. Then, of course, the router cannot access the internet, which is because my SIM Card has expired. So far, so well. But my Problem is, that I even cannot access the rasperry pi local device. I connect my android phone to the routers WLAN. Android tells me that there is no internet access on this wlan, which is fine for me. I can connect to the routers wlan, but I still cannot communicate with any device on the local LAN, I even cannot access the router itself (192.168.8.1). I absolutely need to access the raspberry pi, even when I have no internet.

What can I do to solve this issue?

Hi,

Is it possible that the phone detected that the WLAN was not available, so all traffic did not go to WLAN but go to phone own cellular network?

When you want to access X3000 and its LAN client on phone, please turn off the cellular data and see if it works?

Do you have a laptop next to you? Connect to X3000 WLAN and see if the GL GUI and Raspberry Pi are accessible? Is ping [router LAN IP] reachable?

When android detects no internet it usually asks if you would still like to stay on the WiFi that doesn't have internet access. If you don't answer the yes or no question then android usually assumes you want to switch to mobile data and therefore silently disconnects you from the router which you think you are connected to hence no response from devices on LAN.
