How to Bridge 4G Cellular and WiFi Public Internet to LAN on GL-X300 IoT Gateway

Hi everyone,

I would like to configure a cellular router like the GL-X300 to bridge (preferably as a Layer 2 bridge using my primary router's DHCP) both the 4G cellular connection and the WiFi public internet connection to the LAN Ethernet port.

Please refer to the attached diagram for reference.

My Questions:

  1. How should I configure the Internet connection and network mode settings to achieve this?
  2. Is it possible to use both connections (WiFi internet and 4G cellular) simultaneously, or perhaps with a primary/backup failover logic?
  • Ideally, I'd like the device to connect to the internet via WiFi when available, and switch to 4G if the WiFi connection drops—similar to how a smartphone manages network connectivity.

Thanks in advance for your help and support!

Q1, since you want to manage multi-WAN, as your topology the X750 can only work in router mode, the bridge mode (that is, layer2) cannot be realize for manage.

Q2:

Supported, Load Balance mode in Multi-WAN.

Supported, Failover mode in Multi-WAN.

Hi Bruce,

Thanks for your prompt support!

Q2:

Your explanation is crystal clear, and I really appreciate the flexibility and features.

Q1:

I still have some doubts. What do you mean by "multi-WAN"? As far as I know, there’s only one WAN port. My goal is just to route the internet connection (whether it’s WiFi or 4G) to the Ethernet port. From my perspective, it shouldn't matter whether the device behind the LAN port is another router (my main router) or a client like a PC.

Let me put it another way: Layer 2 bridging isn’t strictly necessary for me. My goal is to ensure that, with this configuration, I can distribute internet access to all my devices behind my primary router.

Is this feasible? Are there any potential drawbacks or possible conflicts between the two routing instances (the GL.iNet router and my primary router)?

One last question:

I’m considering the Collie GL-X300B for my application. I assume it has the same features and firmware as the GL-X300. Can you highlight if there are any limitations with this device compared to the GL-X300?

Thanks again for your help!
Davide

Can refer to the screenshot, the repeater (WiFi), Tethering, Cellular (4G), Eth1/2 WAN, all of them referred to as WAN.

Yes, it does not matter whatever the LAN devices.

As long as the GL router and the main router are not on the same IP subnet. In fact the GL router serves as a WAN link of main router.

They're close. Choose the one that suits you best which depends on your requirements.

Thanks for the answer again, almost all clear now

I will configure Gl.Inet router with a different subnet like 192.168.2.x and connect the LAN port to the WAN port of my primary router on the subnet 192.168.1.x

Gl.iNet configuration

Internet connection : repeater
wireless : disable wifi (need only LAN out)
network mode: router

hope it works !
thank you
