How to configure OpenVPN on GL.iNet router with split VLANs: 2.4GHz without VPN and 5GHz with VPN and kill switch

For example, if the VPN server goes down, I want only the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi (without VPN) to keep working, and the 5GHz Wi-Fi (which uses the VPN) to stop working completely.

Hi everyone,

I’m using a Flint GL-AX1800 router (firmware 4.7.0) with Surfshark VPN (OpenVPN protocol) and I want to set up split Wi-Fi like this:

2.4GHz Wi-Fi (SSID: cornea_2g) should have no VPN — just regular internet

5GHz Wi-Fi (SSID: cornea_5g_vpn) should go through the VPN

I want a kill switch so that:

If the VPN server goes down, the 5GHz Wi-Fi should lose internet access completely

But the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi should still work normally without VPN

How can I achieve this with VLANs, firewall rules, or VPN policy mode?
Is it possible on firmware 4.7.0?

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

GL firmware does not support this VLAN for the time being, including v4.7.
The functions you mentioned cannot be implemented. Sorry.

Currently VPN policy base on VLAN supports VPN split traffic for Private (Main WiFi + LANs) and Guest WiFi.

If I use the private network with VPN, and the public network without VPN, is it possible?

Yes,

Please select the VPN policy mode to Based on the VLAN
