How to install vanilla openwrt on GL-AXT1800

Hey sorry if this is a dumb question but I couldn’t find a straight answer.

I see there are snapshots releases available

I tried downloading one of those and doing a Local Upgrade inside the routers UI but I couldn't access the router at 192.68.1.1, not even via ssh. I had to do a U-Boot recovery.

What is the correct method to install those snapshots ?

I have other routers that use vanilla openwrt and that is why I prefer to install it over glinets UI

You need to flash the file factory bin in the uboot page.
When the router flashed completely and the system starts, login to SSH first and manually install the plugin luci (and uhttpd? I can’t remember whether it will install/depend on uhttpd when installing luci.) before you can access it through the Web UI.

Do I lose the ability to go back to Gl.iNet firmware if I flash openWrt?

Sure, you can flash GL firmware in uboot page to back to
