How to use a GL router as an extender for another GL router that locks in custom DNS

I just purchased the X3000, and I am using it as main router. I have an older Slate that I want to use as a repeater with custom DNS (the idea is for everything that connects through Slate to be sent to specific DNS server). It connects to the X3000 via 2.4 GHZ wifi, but it doesn't have an internet connection once connected. Before I purchased the X3000 I was running this same setup with a DLink as main router, and it worked. Please help me determine what is not configured incorrectly. Thanks.

Please share details about your network, maybe some network diagram containing the IP settings of each device? I guess something might be odd with either gateway or DNS setting.

Did you change the LAN IP of X3000 or Slate?

The default is 192.168.8.1 so at least one has to change.

Thank you both for responding. I had changed the LAN IP. I ended up just leaving it for the evening. The next morning they both were working. Thanks for your help.
