I own GL-AXT1800 and GL-BE3600 and looks like new models get less LAN ports, also true for the BE3600. That makes older model more universal as it has an ability to use 2 ethernet ports for internet and still have one for local network. Or just to use local LAN connection between two devices. So new port layout results in more limits while it doesn’t seem to be more compact.
Hi,
Thank you for your suggestion.
Could you please further clarify the use case for this request?
We generally expect travel routers not to require multiple WAN connections or multiple LAN devices.
Or are you using it as a home router?
Hi!
As a home and a digital nomad router. Bought both GL.Inet models to be able to travel with them but for now I’m still on Xiaomi mi nano that is so much more compact. However sometimes I utilise both LAN ports on it too.
So yes, that’s usually not just a hotel scenario but it’s nice to have a device that’s more capable and flexible. I’ve also been in a situation when there was too much noise on WIFI so connecting 2 laptops over wires was a solution.
GL-AXT1800 does what I need but I’m just a bit worried with new models getting less ports. Still got a GL-BE3600 hoping I won’t need a second LAN on it.
Can you share how does it look from manufacturing perspective, is it about making devices a few euros cheaper? Is there anything else? I didn’t disassemble GL-BE3600 but it feels like there’s enough room for an extra port in this body.
Thank you for the clarification. We’ll forward this to the product team for reference in future products.
I think the main reason is that after providing 1 x 2.5 Gbps + 1 x 1 Gbps, or 2 x 2.5 Gbps ports, there isn’t much remaining capacity in the CPU/switch chipset to support additional ports.
