I am living in a student house where we have two types of Wi-Fi: eduroam and hotspot.smarteye.eu. I am trying to create a private sub-network using the GL-SFT1200 / Opal device.
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
Ethernet Connection (hotspot.smarteye.eu): I connected the Opal device using Ethernet, but it didn't work. There were no error messages, but I didn't have any internet access.
Wi-Fi Repeater Mode: I connected the Opal device to the Wi-Fi network. It didn't prompt for the login portal, so I manually opened it and logged in. However, I still didn't have internet access.
Eduroam: I logged in with my username and password, and it connected, but again, there was no internet access.
I worked in student accommodation and I know basic theory for WiFi students. It is a captive portal for student WiFi. Inside the portal, you could add Mac address to any device but the router needs contact support for permissions.
For example captive portal:
University networks sometime use Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP), and the GL-SFT1200 does not support it. Check with your IT department, and if you need a router with EAP support, look at this table: Product Comparison - GL.iNet
There is no such settings in our captive portal, I checked the provider website and under the FAQ section they stated using an own router is prohibited. I'll try to contact with the landlords maybe we can find a solution with them to make it work.
Yes I am getting IP bothvia ethernet and wifi repeater and doesn't show any issues but still no internet access. What is ttl and how can I change it to 65?
Ethernet and WiFi got the same IP at this screenshot.
Without full read of this topic, I recommend to disable one of the connections, so the firewall/NAT/router knows where to send a package. Even during testing this could lead to problems.
I did the ping test and it timed out, I added the custom rule and restarted the firewall and also restarted the router but nothing seem changed.Though I don't know how to verify if the ttl change was a succes or not.
