Internet Sharing from macOS to Beryl AX (GL-MT3000) Fails to Assign WAN IP

I am having trouble getting my GL-MT3000 (Beryl AX) to pull a WAN IP address when using Internet Sharing from my Mac.
My Setup:

  • Router: GL-MT3000 (Beryl AX)

  • Firmware: 4.8.1

  • Host OS: macOS 26.5.2

  • Physical Connection: USB-C Ethernet Adapter (also tested on Thunderbolt Dock Ethernet) ‭→‬ GL-MT3000 WAN Port.

The Problem:
When I enable Internet Sharing on the Mac via the Ethernet port, the Beryl AX fails to obtain a DHCP lease on the WAN interface. Instead, it self-assigns a private/fallback address (169.254.x.x), indicating no response from the Mac's DHCP server.
Troubleshooting Attempted:

  1. Manual IP Configuration: I attempted to bypass DHCP by assigning a static IP/Subnet on the Mac's ethernet interface and matching the gateway/IP settings manually on the Beryl AX WAN side. (192.168.2.x or 192.168.3.x addresses)

  2. Result: Even with static routing manually configured, the router still fails to route traffic or establish internet connectivity through the Mac.

Has anyone encountered this specific handshake issue between macOS and the MT3000 on the 4.x firmware branch? Are there specific firewall rules or bridge configurations on the GL.iNet side that might be dropping the Mac's bootpd packets?
Any insights or recommended logread filters to check would be greatly appreciated.

Could you please help test or check the following?

  1. If you replace the MT3000 with another device, is the other device able to obtain an IP address from macOS and access the Internet normally?
  2. Conversely, if you reconfigure the MT3000's WAN port as a LAN port and configure macOS to obtain an IP address through the same network adapter, does it work correctly?
  3. If you capture packets on macOS, can you see the DHCP Discover/Request packets from the MT3000, as well as the DHCP Offer/ACK packets sent by macOS?
