IoT devices appear as Ethernet!

A puzzle - Flint 7 using the Apple app.

In connected clients with the exception of two iPhones and two iPads everything else shows the connection as Ethernet- this cannot be correct!

I have at least 10 IoT devices all connected to WiFi 2.4Ghz which are all showing Ethernet!

Is this a firmware bug?

I’m on 4.9.0 so looking at the easy way to move the IoT devices to their own separate WiFi, but don’t seem to find any documentation on how to do this.

Could you clarify the following?

  1. Which device do you mean by Flint 7? Are you referring to the Flint 3 (BE9300)?
  2. Are these IoT devices connected directly to a Wi-Fi SSID on the Flint router, or are they connected through a separate access point that is itself connected to the Flint?

Regarding this requirement, do you mean that you would like to move your existing IoT devices from the current SSID to the new IoT Wi-Fi network introduced in v4.9.0?

If so, there are likely only two practical options:

  1. Manually update the Wi-Fi settings on each IoT device so that it connects to the new IoT SSID.

  2. If the existing SSID is currently used only for IoT devices, you could rename the new IoT SSID to match the existing SSID name and credentials, then either rename the old SSID or disable it entirely.

My apology Flint 3. (I also have a Mudi 7, so it was a mistype)

As far as I am aware the IoT devices are directly connected to the Flint 3.

I do have range extenders, but most of these IoT devices are within close range of the Flint 3.

How would I check?

Sorry for the delayed reply.

We can check whether the client device is directly connected to the Flint 3 SSID by SSHing into the router and running the following command:

cat /proc/oui-tertf/term

Do you mean how to SSH into the router? If so, please refer to:

Then you can copy the command we provided, and paste it to terminal software and pree the "Enter" button to run it.

I did send the SSH results as screenshots but they seem to have gone missing. Which showed the Ethernet connections.

However, I realise why many of my IoT devices were showing as Ethernet connections. I have previously used a power network connection to an outside building and connected this to an external WiFi mast, which was then mainly for the external IoT devices. This was of course before WiFi 7!

Disconnecting the power network and the external antenna and the IoT devices immediately showed as being connected to 2.4Ghz

Seems I now have redundant kit thanks to Flint 3 and WiFi 7!
