Is DDNS necessary?

Just bought a MT300N and updated the firmware to 2.25 version. I set it up without using “advance features” the MT300N is behind another router. I up loaded my .ovpn file for VPN and enabled it. There are no DDNS settings. Everything is working perfectly, but if my Internet address changes on the other router will it still work? Is DDNS not needed?

DDNS is an ID and IP redirect. It is not necessary for VPN etc.

Yes, because your router’s IP will stay the same (eg. 192.168.1.1)

Thanks for the clarification.

I guess a reason for using DDNS is to connect to a private home network while visiting at a hotspot (eg. coffee shop).
