Hi,

Currently, mesh networking is not supported.

As an alternative, you can enable 802.11k/v/r to improve roaming performance between access points, while 802.11k and 802.11v are enabled by default.

To enable 802.11r, open LuCI > Network > Wireless, click Edit next to the target SSID, and enable 802.11r Fast Transition in the WLAN Roaming section.

Please note that the Beryl AX requires the OpenWrt 24 (op24) firmware for 802.11r support. The firmware can be downloaded from:

Am I right:

  1. The situation with Mesh for Beryl AX and Slate AX has not changed for the last few years?

  2. There are no plans for next year to add mesh support for these models into GL.iNet drivers and UI?

  3. The situation with Beryl AX was researched about a year ago in this forum, and I need to remove GL.iNet drivers and UI, switch to OpenWrt 24, and configure everything (VPN, Tailscale, etc.) from the very beginning?

  4. The situation with Slate AX and mesh was not researched in this forum in previous topics, so there may be some bugs or issues? Maybe I will need to switch to OpenWrt as well, or maybe not, etc.?

I am asking this because I use these routers for work purposes, and since I have no previous experience working with LuCI and OpenWrt, I may run into problems that I would not be able to resolve during Saturday and Sunday. I just want to understand the risks.

Please find our clarifications regarding your questions below:

  1. Yes, Beryl AX and Slate AX still do not officially support Mesh.

  2. Our product team is still in the preliminary research phase regarding this feature. At this time, there is no confirmed timeline or specific plan for implementation in the coming year.

  3. and 4. If you wish to use Mesh on Beryl AX and Slate AX, you would indeed need to transition to native OpenWrt and configure your services (VPN, Tailscale, etc.) manually. The good news is that the Slate AX is now also well-supported by the native OpenWrt community, making a Mesh configuration possible on both devices.
