I have BE6500 that uses a Cox cable modem connection to the internet. I see the Cox-supplied DNS servers in the front page of the admin panel. I have a pihole DNS I wish to use, and I’d thought I’d configured the router to ignore the Cox-supplied DNS and use the pihole, but when I do a “cat /etc/resolv.conf” on my client machine, I see those Cox DNS servers instead of my pihole. What am I missing???
Please check the DNS settings under BE6500 Admin Panel → Network → LAN → DHCP Server.
By default, this field should be left empty—meaning the router will assign its own LAN IP (i.e., 192.168.8.1) as the DNS server to LAN devices, rather than using the DNS obtained from the WAN.
Also, please check whether /etc/resolv.conf on your LAN Linux client has been manually modified and locked previously.
