[Issue] Cascading VPN Setup with WireGuard (Server + Client) on GL.iNet Flint 2 (GL-MT6000)

Hello all,

I’m having an issue with my GL.iNet Flint 2 (GL-MT6000) router while trying to set up a cascaded VPN using WireGuard.

Current setup:

  • I enabled the WireGuard Server on the Flint 2 so I can remotely access my home server.

  • I also configured a WireGuard Client to connect to another VPN provider.

Problem:
When I try to use both configurations at the same time (WireGuard Server + WireGuard Client), they seem to conflict:

  • If I enable the WireGuard Server and then turn on the WireGuard Client, I lose internet connectivity.

  • I can’t find any clear option in the router’s interface for VPN cascading or “VPN chaining.”

  • In short, if one service is active, the other gets canceled out.

Device information:

  • Hostname: GL-MT6000

  • Model: GL.iNet GL-MT6000

  • Architecture: ARMv8 Processor rev 4

  • OpenWrt Version: OpenWrt 21.02-SNAPSHOT

  • Kernel Version: 5.4.246

  • Firmware Version: 4.8.2 (release3)

Question:
Does anyone know if the Flint 2 officially supports cascading VPN (WireGuard Server + WireGuard Client running simultaneously)?
If not available through the GUI, is there a way to achieve this by manually editing routes or firewall rules in OpenWrt?

I can’t see it

Hi

On firmware 4.8, the VPN cascading option is no longer available in the UI.

But the VPN cascading is still avialable.
Please refer to the following documentation for configuration guidance:

Also, make sure to enable “Allow Remote Access to the LAN Subnet” on the WireGuard server if you need access to your home server.
