Kmod-tcp-bbr for GL-AXT1800 4.8.x

Can we get kmod-tcp-bbr added to the packages for GL-AXT1800 4.8.x firmware?

Are you running/terminating TCP server(s)/services on the unit?

BBR is a sender side congestion algo, ‘true’ routers don’t run congestion control - they just forward packets.

Would only really be of any value if you run HAproxy, OpenVPN TCP, etc on the unit itself.

Yes, we run a VPN client and proxy on the router itself.

Hi

We will have the R&D team check if we can help add this package to the warehouse.

Thanks will. I also run a VPN and proxy on the router, as it’s been a few weeks would like to check in here if there’s any update?

Hi

Please try the following:
kmod-tcp-bbr_5.4.164-1_aarch64_cortex-a53_neon-vfpv4.ipk (5.9 KB)

It works for me

Admin-provided IPK (5.4.164-1, neon-vfpv4) installed Jun 28 2026. Required
adding arch aarch64_cortex-a53_neon-vfpv4 to opkg.conf — GL.iNet ships with
only aarch64_cortex-a53 configured. opkg install created /etc/modules.d/tcp-bbr
and /etc/sysctl.d/12-tcp-bbr.conf; sysctl.conf updated for persistence.
sch_fq absent from kernel — fq_codel retained as qdisc. Tunnel verified
post-install

Thank you for confirming that it's working properly.

Also, the AXT1800 should normally use the aarch64_cortex-a53_neon-vfpv4 architecture. I'm not sure why yours is reporting aarch64_cortex-a53 instead.

In any case, we're glad to hear that everything is working as expected.

Confirmed working here as well.

Also confirmed our AXT1800 is using the neon-vfpv4 architecture by default.

Thank you for confirming.

The kmod-tcp-bbr package has now been added to the repository and is available for installation via OPKG.
