Most of these plugs are similar, but there are a few things to pay attention to:
The round ones will cover both outlets in a normal duplex outlet. A better choice are the rectangular ones that are designed so that the other outlet is still usable.
The plugs vary in the current they can handle. Some are 8, some are 10, and some are 15 amps.
The software varies. Pay attention to not only whether you can turn them on or off remotely, but also whether you can set a schedule, and if you have a mind, whether they integrate with Alexa or Google or IFTTT. Also keep in mind that if you mix brands you may also be mixing apps to control them, so you might stick with one brand.
One convenience are those that track energy usage.
This! As mentioned some manufacturers use proprietary software etc. which means you’re either locked to their particular products or you’re running multiple applications to control different brands. I’ve tried to stick to Tuya based devices; people generally rebadge the Tuya app however you can use the native Tuya app. Means I can mix and match brands but use a single platform to manage my lights, powerpoints etc.
I haven’t seen one with a native web dashboard. I have heard it is possible to take many makes apart, use a USB to serial converter, solder in GPIO pins, and flash tasmota software to them, which would give you web access.
To be honest, while I am fairly reckless about opening up and hacking things, messing with things that plug into mains power crosses a red line for me. What with burning down the house and all.
You could look at implementing with Home Assistant. but then you’re going to have to setup an instance of HA anyway.
For me, all my devices are Tuya based and registered in the app and then my Google Home app or Google Nest/Mini are used to control and I never see the Tuya app.
can you let me know why you need product like this? For local control? A lot of smart plug can be connected to Home Assistant for local control, wifi, zigbee ones all can work in that way.
