Mediatek-based AX Access Point

Hi,
do you have any plans on designing a Mediatek-based router? For instance, the AX3200 (MT7622 + MT7915E) seems to work pretty well. But it comes with the downside, that the FW update procedure from the stock image to OpenWRT is quite hard.

MT7622 may be the best supported chipset. But there is no supply.

Is this due to the global chip shortage?

Yes. Only big companies got chipset.

Hi @alzhao,
do you know of BPI-R3? It’s featuring Mediatek’s new Filogic 830 / MT7986.
Since GL.iNet currently only offers a single enterprise level access point seems to be Cirrus (GL-AP1300) with 802.11ac, I would love to see an enterprise access point from GL.iNet with

  • 802.11ax
  • PoE
  • 2.5 Gbit/s SFP connector
  • (maybe based on MT7986 / MT7622).

This would be a great alternative to the UniFi 6 LR that would actually be able to deliver the high thorughput that 802.11ax is offering.

Since Sinovoip can source MT7986, do you think it’s the same issue supply issue as with MT7622?

I would like to hear what you think.
