They gave an update in December that the newest firmware broke the SD card slot. 3 months later, they’re still selling the routers with broken firmware. Are there any updates to this yet?
Hi
It seems there may be some misunderstanding?
On the Slate AX, the kernel version was updated from firmware v4.6 to v4.8, which may have affected compatibility with certain SD cards. That said, other SD cards should still work normally.
We’ve been working on improving SD card compatibility internally, but since this is related to the kernel, progress has been relatively slow.
If you’re experiencing this issue, you might consider temporarily downgrading to v4.6.11.
You instructed everyone to downgrade 3 months ago, and admit to little progress to fix the major issue, so how much longer is “temporary”? Also, it’s not as simple as just downgrading, because v4.6 doesnt have cgroups for Docker. So you’re selling a product that doesnt work and then telling them to break a something else to make it work. I’m confused how your kernel update broke one of the biggest reasons people buy this version over any other (the SD slot), and it’s not a priority for you to fix it? You’re literally selling a broken product and expecting the user to fix it.
The SD card works just fine on the older firmware, so telling people that they have to buy another brand of SD card to work with your new firmware, while also not telling anyone which SD cards those are, is unhelpful and unrealistic.
As mentioned earlier, we’ve been continuously investigating this issue internally. However, since it’s related to the kernel, progress has been slow.
So far, we’ve tested the following SD cards and confirmed they work properly.
Samsung 512GB EVO Plus MB-MC512S
We’ve also tested some SanDisk and Netac cards which work fine, but unfortunately don’t have specific model details to share.
