Missing auto detect VPN option 4.8.2 (failed to setup VPN)

Hi everyone :waving_hand:

I have a GL.iNet Flint 2 (GL-MT6000).

I recently upgraded to firmware 4.8.2, but I needed the old 4.7.7 because I used the Auto Detect VPN routing feature, which is missing in 4.8.2.

  1. How to setup auto detect option in 4.8.2 as it was in 4.7.7?
  2. If there is no way I can do this how to downgrade to 4.7.7 with all my settings? (No manual backup was made)

After downgrading back to 4.7.7, I have the following problem:

  • The router itself has internet access :white_check_mark: (LuCI can ping google.com)

  • But LAN devices (MacBook, phones, etc.) have no internet :cross_mark:

  • ping 8.8.8.8 from LAN → Request timeout

  • ping 8.8.8.8 from router SSH → Works fine

I do not want clean install if that possible cause I have multiple settings (like devices’ names, port forwarding and etc) set up. How can I either use auto detect vpn settings on 4.8.2 or recover to 4.7.7?

So are you asking to recover or if there's 'auto-detect vpn settings' in v4.8.2? You'd have better luck getting answers with a proper title.

FYI: the backup made via LuCI -> System -> Backup / Flash Firmware is just a collection of UTF-8/LF text files. You can extract the relevant details there (eg: host, MAC, static IPs, firewall rules) & usually just paste them into their corresponding counterparts on whatever new firmware you're running.

Hi! Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately I did not make any backup. Is there an automatic backup when installing new firmware by Flint?

I want my previous setup with auto detect option work either by setting up new firmware 4.8.2 (this solution would be better) or by recovering previous firmware with all settings 4.7.7.

Please help me

Backups must be done manually.

I don't use anything as 'auto detect' when it comes to anything with a VPN; I set explicit routes. Re-titling your post should get a better chance at GL.iNet staff to advise if something like it is in v4.8.2.

Thank you! I’ve changed the topic name and added more specific questions in the first post.

Hello,

If router is upgraded to v4.8.2, please switch the VPN mode to policy and customize settings "To" based on your idea (or according to AllowIPs).

v4.8.2 will not have auto detect mode, and will be replaced by a brand new policy setting.

Unfortunately I was not able to replace auto-detect mode I used heavily in 4.7.7. I’m very disappointed that update to firmware 4.8.2:

  1. Ruined functionality that I was using
  2. There is an incompatibility between 4.82 → 4.7.7 so I can’t just recover the 4.7.7 firmware without resetting my device

Truly sorry for the inconvenience caused.

The VPN function of v4.8 firmware has been refactored, I think it has changed a lot.

I believe that although v4.8 does not have auto detect (v4.7), but it is included in the v4.8 Policy mode, just manual configuration of "to" , that may also achieve your needs.

Keep settings in firmware downgrade, I have submitted the requirement to PM team, I think they will evaluate.

Sorry again.
