Modem installation on GL-AR300M

After acquiring the great GL-AR300M router, i’m trying to get my 3G modem Option Globetrotter GI0505 to work with it. However, i always receive the Please plug in your modem message.

By running dmesg | grep usb it seems that it is detected only as a USB drive, and ls /dev/ doesn’t show any ttyUSB / -HSO devices. If usb-modeswitch is run with usbmode -l, it does say that there is a Found device: 0af0:d055 (Manufacturer: “Option Wireless Technology”, Product: “Globetrotter GI0505”, Serial: “Serial Number”), but the -s flag doesn’t seem to modeswitch anything. The modem is present in the usbmode.json file.

Help please, what is missing here?

So what could be the problem here? The modem is present in the usbmode.json file, but it is still not switching.

Have you tried it in a PC?

Yes, it works fine on my Linux PC. Which logs (or something more) can i provide to compare?

Sorry I am not an expert on this.

ROOter firmware has good support of modems ROOter by Of Modems and Men
But there is no firmware for AR300M.

Aye, i also thought of Rooter, and even tried its firmware, but it doesn’t install. However, even if it would work, it’s an overkill – my modem is supported by usb-modeswitch and is working fine on big Linux, so it has to be possible to get it to work on Open WRT too.

On real usb-modeswitch logging can be enabled. I haven’t found a way to do so on the version of usb-modeswitch which is used by Open WRT. Here’s the log file from a Linux PC where the modem works fine:
