MT-1300 (Beryl) and Starlink Dish

Using the MT1300 running 4.3.7.

It is connected on its WAN port to the Starlink dish via a POE injector.

Frequently enough to be annoying, the WAN connection drops out on the MT1300 even though the Starlink dish is up and running. This can happen at any time as it appears random. Sometimes the connection is solid for hours, and then all of a sudden it will drop out. It will then re-connect and things go on normally.

I had read some responses that Beryl was having issues with Starlink on the 3.x firmware, which it was, and I hoped the 4.x firmware would solve the issue, but it still seems to happen.

Wondering if anything else has seen issues like with with the WAN port.

I will capture some logs and port them as well, but they are fairly normal in that there is an ifdown and then very shortly after and ifup and everything re-loads on that interface.

Can you run a test with the mwan3 service stopped and disabled, via LuCI → System → Startup, to see if you still get disconnects?

Somewhere there’s a change in routing that kicks it off the starlink network. I presume it’s at the next device from your MT1300 or beyond. Dhcp related?

There is nothing between the MT1300 and the Starlink dish, except a passive POE injector. There is no other network device except MT1300 clients.

What in the logs pointed you to this?

I disabled MWAN3 in the startup and rebooted the MT1300. Will let it run and see what happens and will post the results back here either way.

With MWAN3 disabled the drops are still occurring, so that does not appear to be the issue.

I will say that even with MWAN3 disabled, and rebooting, I was still see MWAN3 entries in the logs…

I was afraid of that.

In Firmware 4, you can configure via Admin Panel → Network → Multi-WAN to change the Interface Status Tracking Method for Ethernet.

You can try increasing Track interval to 30 minutes and Change to Failure Condition to a large number like 100, which will reduce the mwan3 sensitivity.

I always set Track Command to ping and IPv4 Track IP to only 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1.

I can turn off “Status tracking” in the UI for the router.

However, I don’t think it is MWAN since I am not seeing MWAN say there is no internet connection, the WAN port if simply getting a “down” message.

If you read the log it tells you that a routing change occurred just before it kicks it off the network. It’s one single line hidden in a bunch of that stuff. That’s what makes me think it’s the poe injector or beyond…

I took another snapshot of the logs and I see the routing line once, but the MAC address stated is a client on the MT1300… And I dont see the routing message all the time…

Sorry to come back to this issue late.

For Startlink we found there are some compatibility issues for Gigabit Ethernet.

The solution is to set as 100Mbps. You can do this in luci.

For A1300 you can use the following. For MT1300, need to check if exactly if it is these command.

uci set network.@device[2].speed='100'
uci commmit network
/etc/init.d/network restart
