MT-3000 5GHz Repeater won't connect (2.4GHz works)

Firmware 4.4.6
Location: US

Cannot get repeater mode to work with 5GHz at my house which has mixed-mode 5GHz/2.4GHz

Admin page just shows BSSID with the MAC address and nothing else.

It does work when I force 2.4GHz mode

How’s the Wi-Fi congestion in your vicinity?

Wouldn’t know how to objectively evaluate that. But I live in a somewhat dense area, in an apartment building with maybe 50 units.

When I was on firmware 4.2.2 previously - which worked for a few days on 5GHz before it crapped out and wouldn’t work again. Just updated to 4.4.6 because of that.

Sadly, the few times I’ve tried using this router as a repeater while I travel has always been a mixed bag, whereas my Slate has performed almost flawlessly.

I updated the firmware to the 4.5.0 beta
Initially, it didn’t work. Just kept switching back and forth between forced 2.4 and Auto, then it worked.

I have the same issue

Firmware: 4.5.16
OpenWrt Version: OpenWrt 21.02-SNAPSHOT r15812+885-46b6ee7ffc
Kernel Version: 5.4.211

I can not connect to a mixed network (2.4GHz + 5GHz), but it worked with a (2.4GHz)

Any news on this? I can clearly reproduce the problem here.

I tried changing the 5ghz band country code, but the same happens.

Currently the only working solution for me is to set it to connect using 2.4ghz band only in repeater mode. Like that, after every reboot, it works fine.

Other than that, it's a great little powerful router.
