Expected Behavior:
WiFi on 21.02.1 performances normally as stock image 3.203-0809
What do I see instead:
WiFi, both 5G, and 2.4G, have very bad signal strength. To compare, I have a HiWiFi HC5761 on OpenWrt 21.02.0. On the same laptop, you can easily observe that HC5761 is on the full signal. But MT1300’s signal is way lower than HC5761. It doesn’t make sense since they are at the same location on my desktop, and MT1300 is closer to my laptop.
I am pretty sure it’s a problem with OpenWrt 21.02.1 because 3.203-0809 is using 19.07.07 but doesn’t have this problem. 3.203-0809 is working fine, and the signal is strong as I expected.
How to reproduce:
- Download MT1300 v21.02.1 from OpenWrt
- Flash though u-boot
- Turn on WiFi (5G tried different channels, including 36 44 157)
- Simply observe the estimated WiFi strength from the WiFi settings on the phone or PC
I haven’t tested other versions of OpenWrt yet. OpenWrt officially supports MT1300 from v21.02.0, and that’s why I bought it. However, it appears that my HiWiFi hc5761 gives me more control over the hardware, even though it’s an 8-years-old device, which is surprising…
