MT3000 WiFi Failure

Symptom

WiFi connection from mobile devices (phones, laptops, etc) fails. If the MT3000 router is power cycled, WiFi will work for up to a few minutes and then fails.

Hello,

I'm getting the same issue. I just started using my MT3000 so I can't say whether it was behaving like that before.
I'm on the newest stable software - 4.6.2 release1

The errors in the "logread" are exactly the same as for the author of the post.
I'm using the power adapter that comes with my MT3000.

The wifi drops suddenly and I can't connect to either 5G or 2.4G networks that I set up on the router.

I can however connect to my LAN port and use the device this way, no issues with the network whatsoever, only the wifi is malfunctioning.

I'm not sure if it is important, but I'm also using a 5G development board with an RM520 5G module.

Hello again,

I rollbacked the software to 4.5.16 version and it seems that the stability improved. I am using the connection already 3-4 times longer than I was on 4.6.2 and I did not get a single drop of WiFi.

I'll see what will happen tomorrow and let you know.

I'm using Beryl AX (GL-MT3000) together with GL.iNet 5G Development Board (GL-M2) which has an RM520N-GL 5G module attached. Everything was ordered directly from your store.

Beryl is connected via USB-C - USB-A cable to the 5G Development board. Both the GL-M2 and GL-MT3000 are powered by their provided power supplies that were included in the box.

Do you need some specific info, please let me know, I'm happy to help.

PS. I started using the WiFi connection today again and still no drops for now on the older software.

Power

In my case, the outlet for the factory adapter is about 6 feet from the router and the included cable wouldn't reach. I was concerned about voltage drop with the factory plug. I've opted to use an Apple 20 Watt USB-C charger with a 6-foot Thunderbolt 4 (with 180W power delivery capability). That's a way over-engineered solution, but it's worked very well for the last several months.

The power adapter is plugged into a Furman M-8Dx power filter, which in turn is plugged into a 2.5 kVa rack mount Cyberpower UPS. The end result, on my oscilloscope, is a voltage wave that a near perfect sine wave and a power factor of 0.98.

Environment

Right now, the router is sitting on top of one of my studio monitor speakers. I've 3D printed some feet for it to give the ventilation at the bottom more room for air flow, but I've noticed the unit runs at around 64 °C and the fan never turns on. That is within the threshold of most ARM SoCs, but is it by design the fan doesn't kick on by that temperature?
The room itself is typically around 23 °C, 55-60% Relative Humidity.

I don't use Tor or VPN features, DNS and DHCP for the LAN are external, handled by Kubernetes Deployments running on a server that is part of the LAN.

As @maslanypotwor mentioned, the Ethernet port works flawlessly.

In my case, I do not have any USB devices attached.

I've decided to use my laptop's power USB-C power brick to power the router for the last 24 hours. The port I'm using is rated for 65 Watts, not that I think the router could ever use that. I chose it because it's a known good power supply.
And... For the last 24-hours, my router has been completely stable. Wi-Fi is working as expected so far. I will continue running it like this for another couple of days and if the issue does not return, I'll mark this as solved.
Meanwhile, I also decided to keep using the Apple charger with the device it came with, and it was unable to maintain the high speed charging rate, so I think there is definitely something wrong with that charger.

I wanted to let you know that for the newest firmware that you provided I do not encounter any WiFi issues. The network is stable since I applied the update and did not drop any connection since then.

I have also applied the firmware update, but after changing the power supply.

The issue was resolved after swapping out the power supply, however the firmware update has been stable thus far.

I only have experience with the original (release1) 4.6.2 software. There was an issue running the device with a power supply that delivered 15 to < 20 Watts, with no attached devices. That issue is the reason for this forum thread.

With the testing firmware, power supplies delivering 15 to < 20 Watts now work as expected with no external devices (e.g.USB drives) attached.

WiFi works as expected on both firmware with a 20 Watt power supply and no external devices attached.

Thank you for this. Just over the past couple of weeks, I had this exact problem from 4x different travel locations. I posted about it over on Reddit, and someone directed me here.

One problem however is, I cannot replicate the problem on my home wifi, so it makes testing a real challenge. Nevertheless, thanks for the quick response, I have flashed the router with this new build, and will give it a go.

There are lots of factors that can affect test results, which also makes it difficult to reproduce an issue for us. Anyway, welcome to test the new firmware and give some feedback.

Question - are the changes in the recompiled 4.6.2 Release 2 firmware file posted in this thread, also included in the 4.6.3 Release Candidate file on the download page?

I currently am running the recompiled 4.6.2 Release 2 firmware file. Since I can't replicate the problem I had on my recent trips on my home wifi (where I had zero success in four separate vrbo rentals), I can't tell if this 4.6.2 Release 2 version has solved my problem or not. But on the off chance it has, I am hesitant to move to 4.6.3 Release Candidate if that would just be a step backward.
