Mudi 7 - Future Improvements

I have a few thoughts about the Mudi 7 and the potential improvements that could be made. The mudi replaced my old slate ax, a wifi dev board, and anker battery. The Mudi is definitely a fantastic improvement. Especially with regard to the reduction in cables! However, I do think that there is still another area that can also be improved as well. The connection between my laptop and the Mudi is made via ethernet. Many laptops today, as with mine, do not have ethernet plugs anymore. Thus, I use a dongle. The dongle provides not only ethernet; but also charging via USB passthrough and an HDMI port. I am certain that I am not the only person that uses a setup like this. It donned on me though that these same ports could also be incorporated into the Mudi. Wouldn’t it be great if it did pass through charging and had an HDMI port?

You can plug a usb cable (the Mudi 7 supports USB 3) into the side USB port and your computer. The Mudi will appear to your computer as a USB ethernet adapter and provide internet through the cable. The computer will power the MUDI while it’s plugged in.

Hi,

Thank you for sharing these suggestions.

For the current Mudi 7, you can connect it to a computer through the USB-C port and use USB tethering to provide network access without requiring an Ethernet cable. In this way, the computer can access the Internet through the USB connection.

Regarding the other suggestions, such as USB-C PD passthrough charging, HDMI output, and USB hub expansion, we will record your feedback and share it with our product team for future evaluation.

Hello Charles,

Here’s the challenge. I have a compact laptop that only has 2 USB C ports. One of those ports gets used for a hardware key; thus, the other port is for everything else. I suspect that I am not alone in being the only person out there with laptop port limitations. Currently I use a dongle that allows me to both charge and connect to the Mudi router. By habit, I connect via the ethernet cable, as that is what I did for years with my old slate. A single USB c connection would be fantastic. However, then I have the problem of how to keep the laptop charged. With the dongle I can charge and also connect to the Mudi. However, that’s a tangle of wires. Wouldn’t it be much nicer to have pass through charging? One wire from the charger to the Mudi and another from the Mudi to the laptop?

Have a great day.

You could try setting the Power Direction (Data Port) setting to Output Priority but I don’t know if the Mudi 7 can deliver enough power to charge a laptop.
