First I want to express my appreciation for the Mudi 7. It has been a great replacement to the nearly free hotspot that was provided with my Mobile Beacon account. I’ve been very impressed with the speeds that I have achieved and the built-in VPN feature which has made it easy to connect to my home network when away. Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of work with ChatGPT and Codex designing web applications and this has made it very easy to work in my environments.
However, there are a couple items I would really like to see implemented if possible.
The device takes a long-time to boot up. I would love to see a quick boot option that gets the device powered up and online quicker.
Sometimes I need the ability to just charge the device, not have it running while doing so. *** Well I just discovered a Power On with Charger toggle. Switching that to off. Bet that solves that problem.
Dual Ethernet (or Virtual WAN) in other words it would be nice to have the ability to plug into a WAN device with Ethernet and still be able to use the 2.5G Ethernet port for LAN devices. It appears that some of the feature may be implemented, but not well documented. Could the USB 3.1 on the side support some USB dongles for example? Use case, connecting to my Starlink in the field so that my Cellular has a backup.
VLANs. It would also be nice to have VLAN support so that I could determine what traffic needs to go over the VPN and what traffic could go straight out to the Internet (also be addressable to the correct WAN port too.)
Any ability to add storage devices to this one? Is there a hidden microSD slot for example?
It’s already the case. In my case I had to set the USB port to "USB OTG" instead of "Ask me", but then I could plug a USB-to-Ethernet adapter in this port, and it just worked.
The model Mudi7 replaced was like 6yrs+ old. It took over 3mins to boot. The Mudi7 boots faster than a smartphone, im not sure what the complaint is. I leave it on all day, it has different sleep modes, play with them.
I wouldnt expect a new model with physical changes for a long time.
I am glad yours boots fast. Mine takes about 6 minutes. I can not leave mine running continuously. I have to go in and out of places frequently where I can not have it turned on. I frequently am doing tasks where I need to fire it up for a few minutes of work then shut it off. There are times though where I run it all day like right now. I am just asking them to speed it up if there is room to improve it a fast boot setting where it skips some checks for example.
You can plug in a USB drive and it can be used as a storage device e.g. a memory stick or an external hard drive. I’ve got a compact 2TB SSD attached to mine which holds Plex and all the media for Plex.
Thank you. I figured it was, but couldn't find an adapter in my kit of stuff that was compatible. I just ordered the four port Cable Matters listed by someone else. That would be awesome to expand this when needed.
