I am going to be attending a race and would like to stream it while I am there. I am trying to figure out the best way to get a reliable stream and what I need to purchase. There is public Wi-Fi but it is a little far away and needs to be logged into through a portal, my wife has ATT and I have Verizon all of which are not very reliable due to the amount of people.
The router I have in mind is the GL-MT3000 but I am open to other suggestions. As far as how the multi wan would be set up, here are my ideas, not sure which would work best.
Option 1
Repeater- public wifi
Ethernet- Verizon Android
USB- ATT iPhone
Option 2
Ethernet- Verizon Android connected and placed closer to the public wifi AP via long ethernet cable while simultaneously being connected to Verizon network
USB- ATT iPhone
Option 3 (1 and 2 combined)
Repeater- public wifi
Ethernet- Verizon Android connected and placed closer to the public wifi AP via long ethernet cable while simultaneously being connected to Verizon network
USB- ATT iPhone
Option 4
Same as Option 1 but replace an antenna on the router with a directional antenna
Repeater- public wifi
Ethernet- Verizon Android
USB- ATT iPhone
Option 4 - Everything
Repeater- Directional Antenna to public wifi
Ethernet- Verizon Android connected and placed closer to the public wifi AP via long ethernet cable while simultaneously being connected to Verizon network
USB- ATT iPhone
My question are
If I were to replace an antenna, which one?
Would failover work better on the router than the android phone?
Would there be any benefit to having all phones connected to the public wifi as well as their respective networks?
First question I have, if Verizon Android is a cell phone, how can it connect to the router via Ethernet?
I think it is possible to understand whether these three (actually four) connection solutions can meet your requirements through field testing.
If it is an MT3000, it does not support customize change the antenna, and its WiFi antenna is built-in.
Since the router has its own system and better antenna, I think it will theoretically be more stable to connect to public WiFi through repeater, but I am not sure whether the switch link response time of failover can meet your requirements.
Probably yes.
There may be some problems with one phone, and the other phone may continue to work.If multiple links are connected to the router, all mobile phones will only be connected to the router. When the router's superior network is unstable, all mobile phones will be stuck.
I preordered the new Slate 7. Is there a way I can set it up so it just acts as an AP, just receiving public wifi and not creating another wlan, but still have it fail over to the tethered phone?
That is what the goal is, I would like to get the mini but it is still $500 in the states, if it comes down to $200 like it is elsewhere, I will get it.
You can rent starlink for a weekend. I always rent one when i do a Camping trip outside Germany. I don't have the need for a starlink i have gigabit fibre @home and good 5G coverage.
