Netify.ai in system.log running 4.10.0 Astromesh test

Installed 4.10 beta 1 on both my GL-BE9300’s. 1 running in AstroMesh for my Slate7. After a look in the system log I see www.netify.ai being mentioned. The GL-BE9300 is my main connection to my fiber supplier. (After Odido Netherlands had their Zyxel modems talking to a Turkish AI company for monitoring personal network traffic)

Why is that netify.ai in my logs??

DPI is not enabled. As that flagged my interest. And don’t want my network topography and traffic ending up in Canada, US or even Turkey database. With CSAM, Chatcontrol, vpn banning, age verification and all that f’d up BS on the verge of implementing.

@bruce can you have your team look into this? If DPI is disable should Netify be doing anything on the system?

@iGadgetman its my understanding nothing is actually sent out to Netify, all the processing is done on the local router and signatures are pulled from Netify. However I understand your concern and agree that if you dont have DPI enabled, Netify shouldnt be doing anything on the system (as far as I can tell DPI is the only thing using it). Also note you are running beta firmware so there are gonna be bugs in the code

I’m well aware of the risks with beta versions. Running them on all kinds of devices for years. GrapheneOS is alpha on my P10a at the moment

Checking the system-log was not something I do daily. Netify stood out. If something is unfamiliar I AI the crap out of it when I don’t know something.

My post wasnt meant to sound like it was lecturing you regarding beta software. Hopefully this is just a situation where there is a bug with netify. If DPI isnt running, I dont see any reason why netify should be doing anything on your router hopefully the Gl inet staff will look at it.

If anything I would open a support ticket directly with Gl inet and let us know what they say.

Thank you for your question.

In the early beta versions (I believe around v4.8.99), there was indeed an issue where netifyd would still run in the background even when DPI was not enabled. However, as sullyjman mentioned, our DPI operates entirely locally and does not upload any data to the cloud.

We believe this issue was fixed in the v4.9.x series.

The v4.10 beta1 firmware you are currently using should also include this fix.

That said, due to the current implementation of DPI, the service is still started during the boot process and then disabled according to the configuration. As a result, you may still see some related log messages during startup.

You can also SSH into the router and run the following command to confirm whether it is still running:

ps | grep netifyd

The relevant logic can be found in /etc/init.d/gl_dpi:

If you'd like to disable it completely, you can also run:

/etc/init.d/netifyd disable
/etc/init.d/netifyd stop

Furthermore about the database version? Would that not be updated on a regular interval?

I updated the plugin’s btw, as I saw that mentioned in another post.

But searching for netify in the system log now is empty.

I have issues with the content filter and data stats using 4.10.0 beta1.

It seems I have an older version of netifyd and cannot update via normal means.

(If I knew how to post a link I would - anything I tried did not seem to work )
