Can you please export and send me the log for analysis[PM]?
Sure, I will recreate the issue and send you the log
before the update,.. there were some devices in VPN (defined by MAC address). After the 4.6 beta upgrade,.. I noticed Names instead of IP address (which is good) BUT,.. when I remove a device from the list (defined by MAC address),.. device no longer has internet. Removed devices does Not even show in AdGuard's log (no ip address).
...also, DHCP is randomly assigning IP address out of set DHCP range (for other devices)
Which version did you upgrade from?
It was last stable 4.5.16
Thanks, we're trying to reproduce it.
Dear Gl.iNet team. Can you please consider shrinking firmware?
For example make Tailscale or DDNS as official plugin (don’t know which are bigger).
I don’t use Tailscale and I even cannot remove it as it is built in ROM, so I cannot install Adblock-lean for example only because of unused plugin.
In short, please allow users to install them manually (via install button)
DDNS is useful and not big (it is less than 100KB script) so it is bad idea to remove it
Agreed that they have way too much installed in the way of remote applications for the MT6000...I mean it's "supposed to be" a HOME Router...Yet they simply can't get over being a travel router company so they leave all that stuff in their HOME router. Anybody that needs that stuff (And I would bet the vast majority do not) can simply add it in via LUCI interface...But we are stuck with this superflous stuff (for most of the rest of us) because of their travel router mindset.
What a bizarre thing to say and what a strange request it is to shrink router's features when the opposite should be the case. ZeroTier and Tailscale are not only about remote access for travel routers but about site to site communication and access your home LAN remotely as well as using home as an exit node, features that are absolutely essential for a home router nowadays. Why not just use a bog standard ISP router without many features instead of complaining of more features being available especially when others have great use of these features?
What gives you the authority to speak on behalf of other users here?
Agree with @Lastimosa
I want more features, not less. But I think they should focus on privacy/anonymity/security instead of sharing dev resources with others.
What I think is a problem here:
- Tailscale cannot be updated manually in official way (only via firmware or via scripts)
- This can cause you to have vulnerabilities because end of support on some devices
The best way to fix that I think to provide only GL official software (developed by GL), leaving external software (like Tailscale) to user installation.
Or providing way to update them separately from firmware even after EOF.
I'm not speaking on the behalf of others...I am voicing an opinion...That's allowed where I'm from...Not sure about you...I am agreeing with what others have said about options that the AVERAGE HOME USER most likely does not need. These options could be added via LUCI for those that do need them rather than baking it into the GUI. Just my opinion...That's all...
Everyone misunderstood me, NOT remove, just make user to make it be upgradable without firmware or make them pluggable directly in gui
You are more than allowed to do so, where I am from, but not to proclaim that "WE" are stuck with stuff that we do not need as if you are talking about everyone here. Anyway, we are all cool here (and I am speaking on behalf of everyone).
How many GB's you need on a "home" router?
The MT-6000 has 8GB's in my opinion that's plenty
First of all, I don't think that only home routers need features like tailscale. If someone needs remote access to a device at home, both his traveling device and his home device need to have the same service installed for that to work.
Second, about version updates. Whether it's a version update of tailscale or a change in our associated features, we need to adapt and test to prevent problems with basic functionality. Being in installable mode will not solve the problem of not being able to update the version as soon as it is officially available. If we're going to provide a GUI and an installation channel, we'll make sure it's basically usable.
Then there's the issue of external software. tailscale's library is open source, just like adguard home. Anyone who is skeptical about it can check its source code. Integrating this kind of well-known open source software doesn't pose too many privacy risks.
Finally, manual installation is still a difficult behavior for those who need it out of the box. We first have to satisfy the rather common user scenario of remote access. Maybe in the future we'll consider not pre-installing it, but that will be after we provide a service of our own that we think can fulfill this scenario instead of it. Also we might have to consider upgrading to save 3rd party software configurations.
All in all, we'll be talking about this. But there's a lot of work to be done before that happens.
I am so pleased with firmware 4.6.0-op24 on the MT6000 that, seeing it available this morning, I immediately installed it on the MT3000 as well.
So far it seems to be working properly, but I have noticed that the toogle setting does not work. Although I select that I activate/deactivate the Wireguard VPN, going to change the switch does not activate or deactivate the VPN.
VPN works fine if I activate it via software.
Have you installed it without saving your settings? I've just installed with my old settings and I got old firmware installed based on owrt21.
Since it is a major release that changes both the operating system and kernel, I have updated on both MT6000 and MT3000 without saving the settings
