No TAP-S2S option available on AR300M16 v4.3.28

I just purchased a brand new AR300M16. It came with v4.3.28 (which isn’t available on the FW download section, it shows 4.3.27 as stable and 4.3.29 and 30 as beta) but the GUI only shows TUN as a protocol version for OpenVPN. The documentation online shows TAP as an option under TUN in the protocol section. I expressly need to bridge layer 2 multicast traffic over the VPN so I need TAP protocol. I’ve downgraded to v4.3.27 and it’s not there either.

Some instructions reference needing to use the LuCi but it appears is should be native in v4. But even some of the instructions don’t match the router settings available.

I’ve downgraded to v3.216 and bridge mode is available in that version. Not sure how to get it to work in v4 FW.

I used to run all my AR300M and AR300M16 routers on GL iNet 3.2x firmware, and they worked, although the firmware was a bit bloated. My testing with GL iNet 4.x firmware did not go well, so I have gone to generic OpenWrt. I’m currently using a mix of 25.12 and 24.10 firmware. OpenWrt is much smaller then GL iNet 4.x firmware, so I have room to add in additional packages I use, and they are quicker with security fixes.

Hi

The OpenVPN TAP S2S mode is only supported starting from v4.5 and later, so the current v4.3 firmware on the AR300M may not support it yet.

Please continue using the v3.216 version for now.
