If I will purchase Gl.iNet router to use it when I am connecting from public networks, will my devices be secure from intrusion?

I know that I should use VPN but I am too broke to subscribe to one. Someone recommended Tor, but after someone reading on this forum it looks like no devices support it now.

The main question:
If cafe WiFi will be hacked and actively exploited but I am using repeater mode will I be safe?

Just imagine your router as your phone directly connected to the cafe WiFi, your traffic is still going out via their "hacked" network so the answer is no.
